A Study on the Performance Degree and Factor Related to Health-Promoting Lifestyle in Students of a Junior College



Abstract
The purposes of this study were to define the health-promoting lifestyle of college students, and this descriptive correlation research was conducted to examine the relationship between self-esteem, concept of health, perceived health status and health-promoting lifestyle.
The survey data used in the study were collected from K Junior College students. Data were collected from Nov. 18 to 22, 1996.
The tool used for this study was a structured guessinaire which was developed and devised by the researcher. The tool consisted of 32 items related to self-esteem, 20 items on concept of health, I item on perceived health status, 60 items on health-promoting lifestyle and 7 items on demographic characteristics.
The data collects from the interviews were analyzing using the SPSS, yielding frequencies, percentiles, means, standard deviations, t-test, ANOVA, Pearsons¢¥ Product Moment Correlation.
The result of this study are as follows :
1) The average score of performance in the health-promoting lifestyle variables was 28.059. The variable with the highest degree of performance was the harmonious relationship, whereas the one with the lowest degree was the professional health maintenance.
2) Performance in the health-promoting lifestyle was significantly different from demographic variables as board and lodging style.
3) The most important factor that affect performance in health-promoting lifestyle was self-esteem. The concept of health was significantly correlates with health-promoting lifestyle. The perceived health status was partly correlated with subscale of health-promoting lifestyle.
